“History Hitting the Road” arrived at the Wood Festival
on Friday. The program is designed to introduce the public to 19th
Century heritage arts and trades.
Program specialist Dean Hardman said, “We want to get
young people interested in history by hands-on activities.”
It seemed that the goal was met as children of all ages
lined up to see the demonstrations and activities.

Besides the display of an actual 1890s farm wagon,
activities included hand dipped candles, corn grinding, and paper
marbling.
The exhibit travels throughout West Virginia, Maryland,
Pennsylvania and Ohio, serving as an outreach program for the WVU
Extension Service. It reaches over 35,000 participants a year.
