The 49th annual Calhoun County Wood Festival will be
held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 2-4, with the theme “Taking
It To the Streets.”
Festival week begins on Tuesday, May 31, with a Pretty
Baby contest at 5:30 p.m. and Little Miss, Queen Flora and Miss Wood
Festival pageants at 7:00.
Booths open at noon on Thursday, June 2. Gospel night
gets underway at 5 p.m., with local and regional talent.
At 7 p.m., crowning of Mr. and Miss Woodchuck,
introductions of the Wood Festival royalty, and the presentation of the
Calhoun County Wood Festival Spirit award will be
held.
New Life Quartet will perform at 8:30, featuring Calhoun
native Zane Gherke, and sponsored by Roger and Loretta Propst as a thank
you for the love and prayers for Jen.
On Friday, June 3, booths open at 10 a.m. Opening of the
Grantsville Farmer’s Market will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Wayne
Underwood Field picnic shelter.
Friday evening, Karaoke Cowboys will host the return of
Calhoun Idol. The winner will receive a free recording session at
Sweetsong Productions in Parkersburg. Registration will be available
www.calhounwoodfest.com.
Calhoun’s own Side FX will entertain at 9 p.m.,
featuring the music of Jeremy “Fat Boy” Houchin, and sponsored by Minnie
Hamilton Health System.
Saturday, June 4, at 8:30 a.m., are the Calhoun Wood
Festival 5K Fun Run, Walk, and Children’s Race, sponsored by Tim Moore
and Change the Future West Virginia.
Kids Day celebration begins at 10:00 in front of the
courthouse, sponsored by Loren B. Howley, Attorney at Law.
Grand Parade begins at noon. Line-up will be at
Grantsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Parade marshals are Burl and Jean Muncy
Simers.
Corn Hole Tournament will take place in the Stump
Funeral Home/Committee on Aging area with the winning teams earning $100
for first and $50 for second. Team entry fee is $10 and registration
begins at 10 a.m. at the information booth. Games begin at 1 p.m.,
sponsored by Holbert’s Store.
Bluegrass Alliance will perform after the parade until 3
p.m. on the Main Street stage.
Kiddie Peddle Tractor Pulls at 2 p.m. is sponsored by
Grantsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Registration begins at noon at the
information booth.
Stoker 7 and John Richards will be among the talent
starting at 3:15 p.m.
The Will Freed Band will be on the main stage at 5 p.m.,
sponsored by Houchin Construction.
At 7:00, Plan B returns with a cross section of music,
sponsored by Rogers and Son.
Dangerfield plays at 9 p.m., with Harry Beall, Lyle
Kerby, Rick Poling, Roger Bush, Dave Bush and friends, sponsored by
Traders Guide.
Grand Fireworks Finale will be held at 11 p.m., and shot
from Pine Creek Hill. Sponsors are Calhoun Banks and the 2011 Woodchuck
Contest participants.
