Did you know that it is best to let chopped fresh garlic
set at room temperature for 10 minutes before cooking it? The extra time
allows garlic’s cancer fighting compounds to fortify themselves against
heat, which would otherwise deactivate them.
Did you know that the cooled water that is left in the
pan (no salt added) after you hard boil some eggs is useful? You can use
it to water your indoor or outdoor plants. The calcium from the shells
leaches into the water and makes a perfect tonic for your leafy friends.
Did you know that you can preserve that “brand new” look
on you brand new sneakers? By spraying them with a light coat of spray
starch, they will stand up to the elements, dirt and grime.
Did you know that you can conserve water in an older
model commode without a brick? Just fill an empty plastic water bottle
with water and place it in the tank so that every time you flush, you
save water.
Did you know that you can organize spray bottles very
easily? Find an empty spot in a linen or storage closet and hang a towel
bar. Then just hang the bottles by their nozzles over the rod and you
will always know where they are. You can also hang a towel bar in the
cellar or laundry room.
Did you know that chewing gum for 20 minutes increases
blood flow to the brain and lowers levels of the stress hormone,
cortisol? Sounds good to me.
My thought for the month is: Go buy yourself some small
flower bulbs and plant them in your kitchen, so spring will arrive
sooner.
