One of the cannons fired during the weekend has a special story. John
Haddox, of Kanawha Artillery, explained that the cannon is only one of
four of its kind that remain. the others are located at Wilson's Creek,
Mo., Shiloh, Tenn., and West Point, N.Y. the 172 year-old cannon that
rocked the hills on Friday night and Sunday is the only one that is
still fired.

Gary McDonald, a direct descendant of Adonijah McDonald,
and his wife Mimi
portrayed Adonijah and his wife who were caught up in the original
battle.
Dennis Carder, center, Captain of Calhoun County's own 19th Regiment of
the Virginia Cavalry, Company A, "The Moccasin Rangers," addressed the
crowd and thanked them and said that next year they would be back to do
it again.
Heritage Village, a project of the Calhoun County Historical Society,
was busy with tours and performances. In the picture above, Terry Harris
is showing folks the inside of the Jarvis Store.
The Freed Post Office drew many patrons who were interested in how long
it took letters to get to their destinations in the times past.

At Heritage Village, History Alive! program character Maria Isabella
"Belle" Boyd, confederate spy, performed for a large audience. she was
portrayed by Patty Cooper of Parkersburg. Her performance was one of the
many highlights of the weekend.
