Since former coach Lee Evans expanded the Calhoun
County High School wrestling program in 1980-81, coach Mike Stump has
continued to lead the successful program for the last 22 years.
During those 29 straight winning seasons, members
of the team each year have been added to a sort of CCHS wrestling hall
of fame.
To earn mention on this list of Red Devil records,
a player must win 30 matches, pin 20 opponents, or score 200 points in a
season, or increase their career totals to at least 65 wins, 50 pins, or
600 points.
The team, which was 6-0 in duals and 95-4 in
tournaments before finishing third of 42 teams represented at the state
tournament, had eight wrestlers add their names 33 times to the list
this year.
Senior Sean Gungle ended his high school career
with 129 wins (8th place), 794.5 points (9th) and 74 pins (11th).
Senior Nick Stevens had 117 wins (14th), 652.5
points (21st) and 73 pins (14th) in his career.
Juniors Cody Clark (118), Aaron Yoak (96) and Tim
Sutro (72) added their names to the career wins list, as did sophomores
Ben Laughlin (71) and Caden Arnold (65).
Two new categories added this year were top single
season records and best career winning percentage (see the “hall of
fame” page by
