After dominating the Braxton County Invitational,
the Red Devil wrestling squad will host 11 teams on Saturday in the
annual Calhoun County Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
Six of the 22 teams scheduled to compete last
Friday and Saturday at the Braxton County Armory were absent due to the
weather.
Calhoun scored 207 points, followed by
Independence, 177.5; Roane, 157; and Liberty-Raleigh, 151.5.
CHS
had 10 of 13 starters place, including eight in the top three of their
respective weight classes.
Cody Clark won the 130 lb. class and improved to
19-4 on the season. He leads the Red Devils in pins (13) and points
scored (129).
Ben Laughlin, 145 lbs., was the other CHS champion. He remained undefeated with a record
of 17-0.
Runner up efforts came from Sean Gungle (135,
14-5), Jeremy Conley (152, 17-4), and Tim Sutro (189, 15-7).
In third were Nick Stevens (112, 17-6), Austin
Moore (125, 14-8), and Aaron Yoak (160, 19-4).
In fifth place was Harley Hamrick (140, 16-9) and
finishing sixth was Zach Hanshaw (119, 14-12).
Other starters were Jean Blair (103, 10-12), Jacob
Haught (215, 10-12), and Christian Cottrell (285, 9-11).
Nick Stevens (101), a senior, and Cody Clark (100),
a junior, became the 25th and 26th CHS
wrestlers to win their 100th career match. They join senior Sean Gungle
(113), who is tied for 14th on the career list.
Next in line is junior Aaron Yoak, who has 84
career wins.
Calhoun, ranked third in Class AA-A, will host the
following teams on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.: Berkeley Springs,
Braxton County, Clay County, Fayetteville, Frankfort, Greenbrier West,
Oak Hill, Poca, Ravenswood, Ritchie County, and St. Marys.
