With all 14 wrestlers seeded in the top four, Region IV, AA-A coaches have installed host Pt. Pleasant as an early favorite in the regional qualifying tournament on Saturday.

Calhoun has 11 wrestlers in the top three, including six number one seeds. The other eight teams have a total of 31 seeds in the tournament that gets underway at 11 a.m.

The Red Devils’ top seeds include Cody Clark (130 lbs.), Sean Gungle (135), Ben Laughlin (145), Jeremy Conley (152), Aaron Yoak (160), and Tim Sutro (189).

Second seeds are Austin Moore (125) and Harley Hamrick (140). Nick Stevens (112), Caden Arnold (171) and Jacob Haught (215) are third seeds.

Other starters are Jean Blair (103), Zach Hanshaw (119) and Christian Cottrell (285).

Wrestlers who finish in the top four of their respective weight classes qualify for the state tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-28, at Huntington.

Cody Clark continues to lead the team in wins with 30 and points scored with 214. He and Tim Sutro are tied in pins with 21 each.

CHS has been ranked third in Class AA-A by coaches all season, behind Pt. Pleasant in second and Oak Glen in first.

The Calhoun varsity wrestling team ended its regular season on Feb. 11 by defeating host Herbert Hoover, 45-27, and Wirt County, 64-15, in duals.

Cody Clark, Sean Gungle, Harley Hamrick, Ben Laughlin, Jeremy Conley, Aaron Yoak and Tim Sutro were 2-0 as the team win 19 of 26 matches, while giving up two forfeits at 125.

Jean Blair, Nick Stevens, Zach Hanshaw, Caden Arnold and Jacob Haught were 1-1 and Christian Cottrell was 0-2.
