Filling all 14 weight classes, the CHS wrestling team won the Calhoun County Invitational on Saturday with 247 points.

With 11 starters placing in the top three of their respective weight classes, the Red Devils outdistanced Berkeley Springs (169.5), Braxton County (142) Greenbrier West (139.5), and eight other teams.

That masked man is Calhoun freshman Harley Hamrick, 140 lbs., who eventually pinned this Poca opponent at the Calhoun Invitational.

Sophomore Caden Arnold gets a “mat-slapper” in 54 seconds against his Frankfort opponent in the 171 lb. finals at the CCI.

Jared Haught pins another opponent during the WSAZ Middle School Tournament. He avenged his only loss of the season in the finals of the 155 lb. class.

Five wrestlers won championship titles for CHS: Nick Stevens (112), Cody Clark (130), Ben Laughlin (145), Caden Arnold (171) and Jacob Haught (215).

Laughlin remained undefeated, 20-0, on the season. Haught, who was unseeded, defeated the first and second seeds while winning three straight matches.

Placing second were Sean Gungle (135), Jeremy Conley (152), and Tim Sutro (189). In third were Zach Hanshaw (119), Austin Moore (125), and Aaron Yoak (160). Placing fourth were Jean Blair (103) and the team’s only reserve, Dillon Mefford (152).

Clark and Yoak lead the team in wins with 22 each. Clark also leads in pins (25) and points scored (154).

Calhoun will participate in the Bob Zide Rumble on Saturday, 10 a.m., at Williamstown High School.
