The CHS
wrestling team win its fourth straight tournament last Saturday at
Williamstown. The team is now 76-4 in six events.
Red Devil wrestlers combined for 183.5 points to
out-distance George Washington (152), University (148.5) and host
Williamstown (143), along with six other teams.
Calhoun was in fourth place after the championship
semifinal round, but won six of nine matches in the consolation semi’s
to pull in front.
The team pulled away with four of six wins in the
consolation finals and all four of its championship final matches.
Winning those four individual titles were Cody
Clark (130 lbs.), Sean Gungle (135), Ben Laughlin (145) and Aaron Yoak
(160).
Placing third were Nick Stevens (112), Zach Hanshaw
(119), Caden Arnold (171) and Tim Sutro (189).
Laughlin remained undefeated (22-0). Clark leads
the team in wins (25) and points scored (178). He is tied with Sutro in
pins with 17.
Calhoun will return to Williamstown on Saturday for
the 46th annual Little Kanawha Conference championship wrestling
tournament.
At Tuesday’s seeding meeting, LKC wrestling coaches
may have installed the Red Devils as slight favorites to win their
seventh title in the last eight years.
CHS
has four top-seeded wrestlers and 13 in the top four of their respective
weight classes. Calhoun’s top seeds are Cody Clark, Ben Laughlin, Aaron
Yoak and Caden Arnold.
Host Williamstown has three top seeds and nine in
the top three positions. Roane also as three top seeds and seven in the
top four.
Joining those three teams are Braxton, Clay,
Ravenswood, Ritchie, St. Marys, South Harrison, Tyler Consolidated, and
Wirt.
