Visiting Roane County ran up 273 yards in offense
last Friday night, but only three yards were inside the Calhoun 30 yard.
The Red Devils defeated their Class AA rival, 13-0.
The Raiders had seven first half possessions. The
first ended in one play when Ray Phillips recovered a fumble at the RCHS
48, as Roane could not take advantage of a failed
CHS
onside kick to open the game.
The second series for Roane was a punt that Randy
Fluharty caught at his own 20 and, using a wall of blockers set up by
his teammates, raced down the left side to give Calhoun all the points
it would need. Zach Moore’s kick came with 7:31 on the clock.

Calhoun's Randy Fluharty adds to his rushing total as he avoids a
diving Roane County defender. He leads the Little Kanawha Conference
with 1,318 yards and 88 points.
The next two Raiders’ series also ended in punts.
The first one came after the visitors had their
deepest pene-tration--to the CHS
27 on an eight-yard pickup. On the next play, a Roane receiver pushed
off on Red Devil defensive back Nick Stevens, resulting in a 15-yard
offensive interference call.
After the next punt, Calhoun kept control for 11
plays before giving up the ball on downs at the Raider 20.
Roane’s next three possessions ended at the CHS 48 on an interception by Fluharty, at the CHS 44 when the Raiders could pick up only one of
the two yards needed, and at the Roane 25 as the half ended.
After the failed fourth down try, Fluharty picked
up five yards on first down, and, with 1:23 remaining in the half,
Calhoun sent three receivers to the right side. Taking a snap from the
shotgun set, quarterback Moore did not hesitate on a draw up the middle
that ended 51 yards later in the endzone.
Calhoun led 13-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Red Devils used ball
control to limit Roane County to just five series.
Fluharty had 137 of his game-high 174 yards in the
second half. Seven of his 16 carries accounted for all of Calhoun’s
first downs in the last two quarters.
Roane’s five possessions ended at its own 45 with a
punt, at the CHS 40 on an
interception by Darrenger Fluharty, at its own 26 on an interception by
Sean Gungle, at its own 18 on a punt, and at the
CHS 40 when the Raiders came up inches short on a
4th-and-3 with 1:13 remaining in the game.

Nick Stevens, 124 lbs., hits the legs of the Raiders' Ryan Jarvis.
He gets help from Randy Fluharty and Daniel Slider (hidden).
Calhoun failed to pad its lead in the second half
after three turnovers--an interception on its first series, and two lost
fumbles in the fourth quarter--at the Roane 20 and 12, respectively.
Leading tacklers in the shut-out win were Jeremy
Conley (16), Aaron Yoak (12), Danny Slider (11), Nick Stevens (10), and
Randy Fluharty (10).
Conley leads the team in tackles with 68, followed
by Yoak with 61, and Tim Sutro with 55.
Randy Fluharty’s 1,318 rushing yards and 88 points
continues to lead Little Kanawha Conference teams, according to
statistics in The Parkersburg
News.
CHS
(5-2), ranked 11th in the WVSSAC’s Class A rankings, will travel to Wirt
County on Friday to meet the Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
