The holiday season has
begun. It starts with Halloween, and from there, it is a mad dash
through hunting season (an official
West Virginia
holiday), Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. Next thing we know, it
will be 2006.
As you could
imagine, at my house, scheduling anything is a challenge. In fact, even
doing regular maintenance on the vehicle I drive is an ordeal. This past
week, Frank
just took the wheels off of the
Jimmy
so I couldn’t drive it until he got new tires and shocks and what-not on
it. It needed done now, so I was stranded for a few days.
Imagine
trying to schedule a pending family birth (I’m going to be a great
aunt), Thanksgiving dinner, a birthday, guests for hunting season,
holiday shopping and cooking, and Christmas vacation for family in three
different states around Calhoun County’s events for the season.
I will tell
the community now--this year, my family actually managed to get on my
calendar first. And whenever that baby comes in
Virginia,
I’m going.
In fact,
besides Hometown Country Christmas, Molasses Festival Appreciation
Dinner, Veteran’s Day and the grand opening of Krack’s Fiddle Shop, I
have nothing submitted from the community for Christmas or Thanksgiving
events.
Does it seem
early to be asking for such submissions? It may feel early, but that nip
in the air should be a cue that winter holidays are not too far away.
I love
joining our community organizations and groups for holiday events. The
food alone is a treat, but much of the feeling of Christmas comes to me
from these events. I am always touched deeply by the Dove Tree at
Minnie
Hamilton,
and I adore the winter celebration at
Heartwood.
Last year, I celebrated my birthday with the CEOS.
Please,
please don’t wait to ask me if you would like me to join you for these
holiday celebrations. It’s important for me to have those dates so I can
attend, and if not, arrange to get photos and information.
Our online
community calendar will reach into December this coming week, and
listings in our printed community calendar of events are free. It is so
easy to submit your event to our community calendar for the newspaper.
All it takes is an email, a phone call, or a note to the main office.
So, get your
holiday event dates into us now!

Since I’m making holiday requests in an attempt to keep things flowing
smoothly, I remember that last year I got sick-- twice--in December.
Although many groups, businesses and organizations are already
shorthanded, remember, if you are sick--stay home. If you can’t stay
home, stay away from me! Seriously, cold and flu season is coming with
the holidays. Start taking Vitamin C, and if you are sick, or are around
someone who is, remember to wash your hands often. |
