REUNION THANKS
The CCHS Alumni Reunion is a
special time for me. The position of home economics teacher
was my first full time job.
I was from a small town, my graduating class
had 48 students, and I had been an ordinary teenager. It was
scary to be away from home for the first time and be
expected to teach when I didn’t think I knew enough. But the
people here were so accepting and forgiving! Can you believe
that I didn’t know that tomatoes could be canned in half
gallon jars? I had never used a treadle sewing machine. It
would only go backwards!
You all taught me so much. Your families
were very hospitable. They invited me to share a meal, and
attend church and community events. I grew to love the hills
and hollows of Calhoun. I was afraid to ford creeks or drive
on steep roads, so when visiting students, I just parked the
car and waded the creek or walked to get to some of your
homes.
Those first years were a turning point. I
became more confident, less shy and felt your love and
respect for me. You all will always have a special place in
my heart. I know now that it was all part of God’s plan for
my life.

The new town council held its first meeting
this week. One new member was absent, but everyone seemed to
be congenial, and accepted new committee assignments. We
commend Neil, Roger, Joanne, Charlie, Cheryl, Delford and
Gaylen for filling these important positions. The town faces
many challenges. Looking back through our history, we find
that there have always been ups and downs, good years and
not so good years. They will need our support and constant
prayer. Let us be involved with them.
