Guest columnist this week is Rachel Morris. She is a
sophomore at Gallia Academy High School, Gallipolis,
Ohio, where she is an honor student, sings in the school choir, and is
on the volleyball and softball teams. She is active at Fellowship of
Faith Baptist Church, Bidwell, Ohio.
By the following sonnet, it is evident that Rachel is an
avid Mountaineer, even though she lives across the Ohio River:
Sonnet
The sights and sounds that make
me feel at home
Good times and family always set
you free
Many paths and trails there are
to roam
No need to pretend I can just be
me
Mountaineer football games are
always fun
Folks are nice and ready to give
a hand
The mountains reach towards the
sky and sun
Where most of the resources come
from land
Most people put them down but
they don’t know
What life has been for people in
this state
If you give them a chance
they’ll let it show
The people the land the times
here are great
Sitting by the fire or catching
toads
I will never forget country
roads
Rachel is the daughter of Bill Morris (CCHS Class of
1977) and Kendi Barr Morris of Bidwell. Her brother is Will Morris, who
works for Creston Oil Corp. during the summer and will attend Rio Grande College in the fall.
