I was told about a person who was typing on an
ancient typewriter and the “e” wasn’t working. She was working on a
Sunday School lesson on “love”:
"Though I spak with th tongus of mn and of angls,
and hav not charity, I am bcom a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal."
She was really irritated with that machine! Out of
26 letters only one failed to work, but it ruined the entire lesson.
Do you ever think you are not important, that you
have little to offer, and if you don’t show up, no one will miss you?
This is the time of year when there will be many
new beginnings. We will inaugurate a new president, and state officials
will make a new beginning. Here in our county, we have a new
superintendent of schools and other elected officials. Make a pledge to
yourself to become active in your church, in your family and in your
community.
You cast your vote and helped elect these
officials. Now, support them by knowing what they do, and why they do
it. We have all kinds of governing boards and most of us have no idea
what they do. Hospital, library, schools, parks--all have boards that
represent us.
Show some interest in what is happening around
here.
Remember the old typewriter . . . The next time you
think that you can’t make a difference, remember that, though there are
many Calhouners, one empty seat . . . YOURS . . . can not be filled by
anyone else.
CARE!
Help keep our county on the map!

77 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR
NEW PRESIDENT
Day Seventy: January 13, 2009.
8 days left until inauguration day.
For President-Elect Barack Obama to make wise and
godly choices regarding openings in our nation’s judicial system.
Blessed are
they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.
--Psalm 106:3.
Mighty God, You alone rule and judge what is right
in our world. Even though our systems strive to lift up and exalt
individuals, You are our judge, choosing those You want to lift up and
bringing down those You want to debase. Thank You, Lord, that You have
all authority this day and every day.
Precious God, we pray that in the days to come You
will move in President-Elect Barack Obama’s life to help him make wise
and intelligent choices in selecting the individuals to serve in our
judicial systems. As he chooses men and women who will influence laws
and will interpret the Constitution, give him great discernment in these
appointments. Let Your purposes be accomplished, O God, in the name of
Jesus, amen.
