“Auld Lang Syne” is usually sung each year at
midnight on New Year’s Eve in the United States, United Kingdom,
Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong,
Singapore and other English-speaking areas. It signifies the start of a
new year.
“Auld Lang Syne” is a Scottish poem written by
Robert Burns in 1788:
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old times since?
Chorus:
For auld lang syne,
my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy
your pint cup!
And surely I’ll buy mine!
And we’ll take a cup o’
kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
As we close the year 2008 and begin the year 2009,
let us not forget our old acquaintances, the lessons we have learned and
that we have hope for the future.
Let us use our “cup of kindness” as the song says,
to offer a drink to those who bless our lives.

77 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR
NEW PRESIDENT
Day Fifty-Five, December 29, 2008.
22 days, 15 hours and 15 minutes left until
inauguration day.
For the White House and all its offices and
departments to be free from immorality of any kind.
“But among you there must not be even a hint of
sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because
these are improper for God's holy people.”
--Ephesians 5:3.
Holy, holy Lord God, You are perfect and pure and
all Your ways are without flaw or error. This is perfection that I
cannot comprehend because of my sinful nature, but I thank You for it,
all the same. Thank You for resisting all temptation to sin when You
walked this earth, Lord Jesus Christ.
Holy God, as we look to a new administration taking
up residence in the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office
Building and all the administrative departments in and around our
nation’s Capital, I ask You to establish leadership at every level that
honors and acknowledges You. Protect all who serve from pride and
arrogance and from rationalizing behavior. Let hearts be attuned to You,
so our leaders and our nation may receive Your rich and bountiful
blessing. In Your powerful name, amen.
