The Wood Festival is underway!
This means excitement in Calhoun County as
residents and guests pick and choose from the events of the week. The
courthouse square will be buzzing with activity as booths are set up,
crafts moved in, and a variety of foods tempt residents and visitors.
There are also features taking place in other
areas, such as Wayne Underwood practice field and the industrial park,
which will host noisy and exciting vehicle events, and the Main Street
stage has a full schedule of entertainers.
Friends of long ago will be in the county hoping
someone will recognize them. They will be recognized and old memories
will be revived. New friends will visit our area, maybe because it is
closer to their home and less gasoline will be used. Yes, a Calhoun
welcome will be waiting this weekend for all who come.
Commencement was last weekend, and 76 students
entered the adult world. They are now of voting age and will have a part
in managing our nation. They also have a responsibility to give back to
the county, which will always be close to their hearts.
The Wood Festival Committee can use new volunteers.
This is just a starting point. Most of the activities in Calhoun are
initiated because of a need. Our people cannot be stopped when they are
working together for a common goal.
So, on with the Wood Festival of 2008! The Calhoun
Chronicle thanks the committee and volunteers who work every month of
the year to assure the future of our unique celebration.
