Apr. 15, and the days preceding, can seem like
times of doom and gloom.
I read about a famous architect in San Francisco
that was well known for his
unique church designs. He and his wife
were figuring out their income taxes and he commented, “This
country has been so good to us that we always enjoy doing our part for
it.”
This comment was really startling for me. I had
always thought of tax money as a penalty, something to pay and forget.
Now, I will remember that this money will return to us in various ways
and much will go to others, our brothers and sisters, in this America.
God bless our taxes, the work that they represent,
the lawmakers who decide how to spend them, and even the tax men.
Not only are many taxpayers receiving tax refunds,
but in a few weeks the government’s economic stimulus payments will
begin arriving.
Beginning May 2, and continuing for the next
several months, more than a $1,000,000 is expected to be paid out to
residents in Calhoun County through direct deposits and paper checks.
According to the IRS,
for those whose tax returns are processed by Apr. 15, and had tax
refunds deposited directly to a bank account, payment is expected to
made May 2, 9 or 16. Those receiving paper checks should receive payment
between May 16 and July 11.
If your tax return is processed after Apr. 15, you
can expect your stimulus payment about two weeks after receiving your
tax refund.
For residents who do not usually have to file a
return, it is not too late to qualify for a stimulus payment this year,
but a return must be filed by Oct. 15. Visit
www.IRS.gov for
information.
