CALHOUN CARES - January 25, 2006
As a partner of the Legacy Project, we have been asked to
submit information about the Heritage Village to the Vandalia
Program for inclusion in their publications. They are proud of
the work of the Historical Society in preserving the history of
Calhoun County.
This fits right in with the Encounter Calhoun project of the
Chronicle, planned for release this spring to promote county
tourism and events. Even without publicity, many visitors have
come here to research genealogy at our library and visit grave
yards and historic sites. The historical aspect of this tourism
publication is only a small part of our attractions. Think what
can happen if our unsung treasures--our parks, festivals,
dinners and shows--are advertised!
We believe we can accomplish this project, and it will
accommodate new possibilities for our community. While searching
our archives for more information on the Jarvis Store, Stevens
School, Starcher Blacksmith Shop and Freed Post Office, I found
two quotes that seem to fit here:
POSITIVE THINKER’S CREED
When faced with a mountain,
I WILL NOT QUIT!
I will keep on striving until I climb over . . .
Find a pass through . . .
Tunnel underneath . . .
Or simply stay,
And turn the mountain
into a GOLD MINE
With GOD’S help!
The other one is:
I alone can’t, we together can!
CALHOUN COUNTY CARES!
