HARRY SIERS - April 27, 2006
Calhoun County is mourning the loss of Harry Siers, but is
also celebrating the life of a man who has touched a majority of
our lives. You will read his obituary in this issue and know
about his involvement and leadership in so many aspects of our
community. His God given talent of food preparation was shared
with us all. When asked to prepare a meal he would say, “Honey,
don’t you worry about it, just tell me how many to serve, and it
will be ready.”
Of course, his wife, Terry, was there to help him. His
cheerful personality and total commitment to the Christian way
added to these occasions.
I have a memory of a good looking teenager who was very
involved in Future Farmers of America. He represented Calhoun
County with pride at Conservation Camp and leadership camp at
Jackson’s Mill. I was the chaperone for several of these trips
and still remember the laughter and fun we had while traveling
in the car. Harry never let me forget about the times we would
get lost because I couldn’t follow directions.
How will we manage without him? We must step up to fulfill
his visions for our county. He would expect us all to continue
with the dinners, Christian outreach, good humor and love of
life. He was always present at Relay for Life and other cancer
awareness events. This work must go on, in memory of Harry and
others who have given so much of their lives for us.
