PROUD AMERICAN - September 21, 2005
“O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife.
Who more that self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.”
--Katherine Bates, 1913
On July 23, Sarah’s husband, Todd Rhodes, reported for
active duty with the National Guard at a base in North Carolina. Since
that time, he has also been at Ft. Dix, N.J., and now the time has come
that he will leave American soil.
I have become more aware of others from our county who
are serving in the armed forces. There are window displays at J&B Drug
Store and Minnich Florist. These service people are prayed for in
churches every time the doors are open. We also pray for them in our
personal prayers.
Our service people know that when they decide to serve
our country that they will make many great sacrifices. Most of them
would not change the decision to serve.
We can read the words of Lee Greenwood written below:
“America is a land filled with courageous giving people.
People who fight for what is right.
People who don’t tolerate bullies.
People who are there in times of crisis.
And people who lend a hand.
BE PROUD TO CALL YOURSELF AN AMERICAN!
Help make our town, nation and world a better place.
There is not anyone too old or too young,
Too rich or too poor, to make a difference.”
--Lee Greenwood
Keep our country, state, county, town and home a place
they are proud to protect and return to when their service time is
complete. Above all, God bless them and their service!
