MILITARY THANKS - December 1, 2005
Thanksgiving is not over just because the turkey is gone
and the last family member is on the way home. We can give thanks any
day and any place. With Christmas approaching, I realize that the things
I am thankful for are actually the best gifts of all.
I now take the privilege of quoting from Todd's message
to us on Thanksgiving Day.
"As I think about Thanksgiving this year, I have to say
that it has a whole new meaning, different than any other year that I
can remember. As you sit down to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and
friends please take a minute to consider these things I tend to take for
granted.
For the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross
Forgiveness of each of our sins and shortcomings,
A loving wife who puts up with me and supports me 100%,
Three wonderful children,
The gift of life,
A loving family,
A church family second to none,
Good health,
The opportunity to live in the greatest nation in the
world with democracy
The opportunity (and responsibility) to vote,
The opportunity to worship without fear of persecution
or even death,
Each of you that choose to be involved in my life and
the life of my family.
As you spend time celebrating the holidays this year,
please remember these true riches in life."
Keep the real reason for Christmas in your hearts and
minds.

Recently, we viewed videos of our soldiers opening
packages from home. So much appreciation was shown for little things we
take for granted. Our postal service makes it easy to send packages.
Boxes are available at no charge in the accepted sizes. Fill them full
with your gifts and tape them well. The charge for mailing is about
$7.50.There are forms to complete, but the postal employees are very
helpful.
The Christmas deadline for overseas shipping is Dec.10.

Three generations of the Sims family from North Carolina
returned to Calhoun County for deer hunting this year. They read the
Chronicle each week and know where each area is located on the map and
they even know how many were in church the last time it was reported in
the Orma news! They say that the people of Calhoun County are special
because of their hospitality---in stores, restaurants, gas stations.
Thank you Calhouners for being friendly!
