During election time, an old song keeps popping up
in my mind that was recorded by Bing Crosby:
“Accentuate
the positive, Eliminate the negative,
Latch on to
the affirmative, Don’t mess with Mr. In-between.”
These questions can be a guideline when making a
choice. Just vote!
CANDIDATE SELECTION CHECKLIST
Things to look for:
--Will the candidate represent your beliefs and
needs?
--Is the candidate qualified for the job?
--Do they have the education and experience to
handle the job?
--Are you comfortable with the groups and
individuals who support the candidate?
--Do you trust the candidate?
--Is the candidate a leader?
--Will the candidate speak out for the citizens he
represents?
Beware of candidates who:
--Appeal to your emotions instead of your
intelligence.
--Can identify problems, but don’t have realistic
solutions.
--Present simple, no sacrifice solutions to
complicated problems.
--Avoid talking about taxes, health care, budget,
safety or other involved issues.
--Have shady dealings in their past.
--Tell you what they think you want to hear.
--Use negative campaign methods against their
competitors.
Supporting a candidate:
--Ask questions of and about your candidate.
--Volunteer your time, contact voters, help
organize events, get the information out.
--Urge others to support your candidate.
Remember to VOTE for your candidate on Election Day!
