Easter is a time to look ahead.
Matthew 28:1 says: “As it began to dawn toward the
first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the
sepulcher to find Jesus.”
Mary Magdalene asks Mary, “How are we going to move
the stone?” Mary M. thought, “I had forgotten about the stone. There is
no future now that the Master is gone.” The days ahead seemed like a
long empty tunnel.
Then the earth rumbled beneath their feet. The
women were really scared as an angel appeared before them and rolled
away the stone. He said, “Don’t be afraid, you look for Jesus. He is
risen.” They inched forward to the tomb. It was true . . . “The tomb was
empty!”
The angel said, “Go quickly and tell the disciples
that He is risen. He goes before you to Galilee.” Both Marys started
toward Galilee, Mary Magdalene in the lead. As they were running,
“suddenly Jesus was there in front of them.” The sun was just coming up
over the hill. She ran on into the streets of Jerusalem, shouting,
“Jesus is risen,” and burst into the room where the disciples were
staying.
All the days ahead of us are now filled with hope.
Jesus is not only here in the present. He goes before us into the
future. No matter what happens to us, Jesus will meet us.
