I just spent $42.97 at a dollar store. How could I spend
so much at a place where things cost just a dollar? I just wanted some
napkins, socks and soup. While there, I decided to look around and see
if there was something else I “needed.” The shopping cart was soon
loaded with things like a book, gift bags, nail polish, shampoo, and a
toy for the grandchildren’s room.
Now I know how it added up! It was one dollar at a time.
Little things do add up.
If you are hoping to lose weight, a cookie today, ice
cream tonight, a candy bar for lunch. Hmm, soon it is a pair of twill
pants that won’t zip. Or it could be a day too busy for exercise, no
time for a daily devotional. Then, there is an evening when I will watch
one TV show and sit in front of the screen for several hours. I begin to
feel worn out and sluggish.
It works in a positive way too. Smiles can be passed out
freely and will brighten someone’s day. Send a card to someone who is
hurting, or just pat them on the shoulder.
When you smile, the world doesn’t seem so cruel and
hopeless.
Count the little things, they do mean a lot.
