Another night of bedtime reading gave me the
inspiration for today.
The quotation is from the book, “The Christmas
Hope,” by Donna Van Liere.
The thought was written by Martin Luther King, Jr.
It is a coincidence that I read this on the day that we celebrate his
birthday. It is a good way to remember that his words are for the
masses, not just a special segment of the human race.
“If you lose
hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose
that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it
all. And so today I still
have a dream.”
The New Year, with its cold weather, respiratory
infections, news about recession, can be depressing if we do not have
hope. If we look at both sides of an issue, we can often find not just a
beam of hope, but actually a sunny sky.
The Town Improvement Committee is an example of
this. There is up to $45,000 available for a new town hall from the
USDA. Funds will be available once money from other sources is in place.
This is good. It is a beginning.
Checking the membership list of the committee, over
half of the members reside outside of the town limits. Several of those
represent businesses in the town. This means that people are interested
not only in Grantsville as a town, but also as the county seat.
Businesses are donating services, supplies and funds to the town’s
projects.
Remember the WalMart Day at the municipal park?
Even businesses that specialize in food service did their part by
providing lunch for the workers. Whatever your service, it can be used
for the benefit of our county seat.
We can make a difference in our county.
