The tender teens
The fretful fifties
The teachable twenties The
serious sixties
The tireless thirties
The sacred seventies
The fiery forties
The aching eighties, etc.
It all sounds so neat and orderly. When I first heard this version of
the stages of life, I was in my thirties, and it hadn’t been tireless! I
remember going to bed, exhausted, from caring for young children and all
of the tasks of running a home and volunteering.
Did you feel fiery in the forties? Probably don’t remember? I don’t.
But the fifties? None of my friends in this range are fretful.
Probably tireless, and at other times exhausted, from enjoying life and
working.
Another friend, in her seventies, is quite teachable as she takes
classes and works shops in her spare time.
It’s a fact to be accepted and treasured: We can all be exactly what
we want to be at any stage of life.
