ALUMNI - July 12, 2007
Thanks to all who worked so hard to make the Calhoun
County High School Alumni Reunion such a memorable event. The officers,
Loyd Wright, Ann Smith, Jean Simers and Emily Gainer, worked well with
their group of volunteers. Of course, the efforts and dreams of earlier
officers and volunteers, such as Ila Grey Snider and Bill Ice, will be
remembered each year.
Larry Cottrell, Class of 1962, recalled a long list of
teachers who helped influence the members of his class: Kenneth and
Martha Hall, Cecil Johnson, Louise McDonald, Kate Holliday, Fred Barnes,
Eugene Reynolds and Wayne Underwood. He also included the janitors,
Shirley Hosey and Holly Kerby, because they were friends to all. Even
the cooks, Lorena Kelly and Icie Ball, were remem-bered for their
biscuits. Hudepol was another name from the past. The crowd was reminded
that he parked his gum behind his ear and would walk the sidelines,
leading the Hudepol cheer, “Come on, Calhoun!”
Beverly Prince, Class of 1957, read the poem, “School
Days and Teenage Nights,” by Anita Evans, 17, of Lewisburg, Tenn.
Pondering thoughts, dreaming dreams,
Going to dances, devising schemes.
Planning parties, taking tests,
Always remember, never forget.
School days and teenage nights,
Getting cars and motorbikes.
Watching TV, drive-in shows,
Where’s the time gone? No one knows!
Chasing boys and running wild:
Your mom still treats you like a child.
Home by ten, asleep by eleven,
Up in the morning for school at seven.
Graduation comes at last;
We reminisce about the past.
Our high school days have been the best--
Always remember, never forget!
Last Saturday, the halls of Calhoun
High School rang with laughter as tales were told of pranks played on
teachers, sports stories, class events, and town and county festivities.
Pledges were made to “See you next year. It has been fun!”
