Chelsey Ball won the title of Queen Flora XLVII on
Monday evening at Calhoun Middle/ High School. She was also chosen as
Miss Photogenic.

First alternate is Kayla Boggs, who was selected for
People’s Choice award. Second alternate is Leslie Garrett. Other
princesses are Trenda Jo Over-bay (Miss Congeniality) and Samantha
Wilson.

On Tuesday evening, in the Miss Wood Festival Pageant
(ages 18 to 26 division), Ashley Rutherford won the title. She was also
named interview winner and will represent the festival in the Miss West
Virginia USA Pageant.
First runner up and swimsuit winner was Maria Kisner,
who will represent the festival in the Fairs and Festivals Pageant.
Brigitte Morris was named Miss Photogenic.
Other winners from Monday and Tuesday are listed on page
five.
The 47th annual Calhoun County Wood Festival will be
held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the theme “Hickory Smoked and
Full of Fun.”
The festival will feature mandolin player Johnny Staats
on the Main Street Stage on Saturday night, sponsored by Houchin
Construction and Drilco Oil & Gas.
“Mayberry Memories” will return, with Scott Epperson and
Bruce Neuman as Barnie Fife and Gomer Pyle, sponsored
by Minnie Hamilton Health System.
Entertainment gets underway on Thursday at 5 p.m. and
ends with a performance by The Chase from 9 to 11 p.m., sponsored by
Grantsville Foodland.
Participants will compete on the Main Street Stage on
Friday at 5 p.m. in the Wood Festival Idol contest. The winner will
receive a free demo recording session from Sweetsong Productions and
perform during Satur-day evening’s entertainment.
From 9:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Dixie Moon will perform,
sponsored by Rogers and Son Oil and Gas.
The grand parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. will feature
parade marshals Harold “Kitty” and Jeanne Wilson.

Musical entertainment gets underway at noon on Saturday.
Dangerfield will perform from 9:30 to 11 p.m.
The Calhoun Wood Festival Points Series Mud Bog will be
held at Calhoun Industrial Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Professional mud
drivers, along with pro and amateur mud racers, will compete. Host will
be Toby Wagoner. Mud Bog T-shirts will be available. The Mud Bog is
sponsored by Calhoun Realty, Heiney & Son, Furr’s Auto Sales, and
Calhoun Auto Care.
The exhibit area will expand this year by utilizing the
area in front of the former Super Service building.
A new feature at the festival will be Civil War
reenactors camping at the mouth of Phillips Run Creek at Wayne
Under-wood Field, Grantsville, sponsored by 19th Virginia Regiment, Co.
A, Moccasin Rangers Civil War reenactment group.
Also at Underwood Field will be camel rides and a
children’s petting zoo. A flea market will be held on Saturday at the
former Calhoun High School parking lot.
The festival will come to a close with a fireworks
display at 11 p.m. on Saturday, sponsored by Calhoun Banks.
