The trout are biting at the bottom pond at Calhoun
County Park, near Rt. 16. These are fish averaging 12-15 inches, with
some that are larger. They are known to swim around in schools, spotted
by the observing angler. You are invited to go fish for this resource.
After you catch a few, be thinking about donating to the cause next
year. Cost of the fish stocked by Indian Lake Fisheries was $590.42.
Turkey season is halfway over. Some fine longbeards
have been taken and others are still gobbling. Glenn McBride harvested a
nice Calhoun County longbeard. Your good sportsman, such as Glenn, who
are willing to put in the time scouting pre-season and hunting hard will
usually have success.
Wild turkey is a wonderful meal. Usually, I pound
out the breast and fry it in butter. What meal could be better than a
Calhoun turkey, some Calhoun trout, and some ramps or mushrooms from our
hills and hollers?
I would like to start a outdoor spotlight of game
and fish taken by Calhoun residents. Email them to
Coryboothe@hotmail.com. Thanks, and be safe in the turkey woods.
