Roane Vineyards

My next stop in Roane County was strictly for the
taste buds. Located on Reedyville Road, only minutes outside of Spencer,
is one of the premier destination wineries in West Virginia. Owners Paul
and Anna-Neale Taylor welcome visitors for free tours and samplings of
their award winning wines.
Nestled in rolling hills that offer a truly
picturesque landscape, Roane Vineyards was founded in 2000 and grows
between six to 10 varieties of grapes. Paul and Anna-Neale do all of
their own pruning and picking. They grow at least 25% of all the grapes
used to make their wine. Many of the wines are named for local places.

The wine selection is varied, ranging from a dry
red to a sweet dessert wine. The red wines include Cabernet Franc,
Merlot, Marechal Foch, Chambourcin, and Harvest Red. If a white wine is
your preference, you can choose from Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc, Blue
Goose (Gold Medal wine in 2005 West Virginia Commercial Wine
competition), Noble Ridge, and Country Lane. The vineyard also offers
Blush and Summer Mist.

Roane Vineyards has more than a dozen different
wines and makes seasonal fruit wines as well. Some of the old fashioned
wines, made from elderberries or Niagara and Concord grapes, are chosen
favorites. Plum, Melomel, and raspberry are also seasonal venues that
bring back the same customers over and over.
A tour and a beautiful tasting room are a nice way
to spend a sunny afternoon or cool evening. The fireside seating could
lend to a relaxing experience overlooking some of the state’s fabulous
scenery. Make an appointment for a romantic afternoon with your
sweetheart to tour the vineyards and enjoy a taste of homegrown
goodness. The warm hospitality of the Taylors is truly delightful.

Roane Vineyards offers its wines at several retail
centers, including Tamarack, Capital Market, and the Amish Bulk Food
Store. The tasting room is available for special events and parties.
Private labels can be made for special occasions or for your business if
arrangements are made.
